My name is Jasna Held. I was born in Dubrovnik, where I still live today. I am a teller of fairy tales and stories for children and adults alike.
I have been actively practicing this craft since 1994, performing for children in kindergartens, primary schools, theatres, childrens' homes and hospitals (mostly in Dubrovnik, Split, Šibenik, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla, Bihać, etc.), as well as for adults in theatres, clubs, various institutions for the elderly and disabled, and at festivals throughout Europe.
Theatre appearances and acting were a part of my childhood and my youth. My first storytellings were connected to the childhood of my own children, however becoming a storyteller and performing for an audience is something of an different nature entirely. My most vital experiences related to fairy tales and storytelling came during the war, in 1991.
A bomb shelter during shelling — children, the elderly, women, and fear. I began telling stories at the urging of my daughter, 9 years old at the time. Both children and adults listened to the fairy tale I told then with equal attention, and the atmosphere that was created showed me that not only I believed in fairy tales.
It was this experience, so real and intense, that led me two years later onto the mysterious path of fairy tales and storytelling.
Since then, I have been travelling and telling stories to all those who love fairy tales and stories and who wish to hear them.
